A Laid-Back Island Wedding at Fripp Island
There are some weddings where the location feels like more than just a backdrop, and Sarah and Clai’s Fripp Island wedding was exactly that. Fripp Island had been part of their story long before their wedding day. Sarah’s family had a home on the island, and it was a place where the couple had spent so much time together over the years. It was where their relationship grew, where Clai proposed, and eventually, where they chose to get married.
The wedding day began at Sarah’s family home, surrounded by childhood and college friends who had spent years making memories there. The morning felt relaxed and familiar, with a sense of nostalgia that carried through the entire day.
Their vision for the wedding was a perfect balance of laid-back island living and elevated Southern style. Color played a huge part in the design, with vibrant orchids woven throughout the florals and reception details. The result felt colorful, personal and completely at home on Fripp Island.
And then there was the weather.
With rain moving in and out throughout the day, there was plenty of uncertainty about whether the ceremony would actually happen outside. But Sarah and Clai were determined to get married on the 12th hole, the very same place where Clai had proposed. Somehow, the weather cooperated at exactly the right moment. The rain stopped, the sun came out, and they exchanged their vows overlooking the marsh surrounded by the people they love most.
The reception continued that same easygoing energy. An elegant tent filled with colorful florals, beautiful details and a packed dance floor became the setting for one very good party. There was plenty of laughter, a few funny hats later in the evening, and a dance floor that stayed full until the very end.
What I loved most about this wedding was how personal it felt. Nothing was there simply because it was expected at a wedding. Every part of the day connected back to Sarah and Clai, their families, their history on Fripp Island and the people who have been part of their story.
